Eight Days Until the Symposium!

Amber Vs. AloysiusAs of Wednesday, April 16th, 2014 we have just EIGHT days left until the start of a third year of Symposium shenanigans!

Regular programming begins at 4PM on Friday with the Welcome to the Symposium Tea Stroll, the “Jedi Vs. Borg” panel, “The Gentlemen’s Art of Backstabbing” LARP game, and the Vendor Hall will be open. The fun and larks continue through out the weekend and don’t end until Closing Ceremonies when we find out which Steampunk Boba Fett won the Bounty Hunter Charity Showdown, who won what raffle prize, AND which Airship managed to accrue the most victories in the Symposium Games to leave with the Symposium Games MMXIV Trophy and four badges to next year’s Symposium. To learn more about the schedule and make your own personal mobile app, check out the Online Symposium Schedule . . . remember, we are going paperless this year.

Nine Days Until Symposium!

Stormtrooper TwainAs of today there are only NINE days left before the opening of the third annual Steampunk Empire Symposium . . . how ready are you? Here are a couple of deadlines . . .

The deadline for purchasing pre-reg badges is April 20th at midnight.

The deadline for purchasing a Saturday Afternoon Tea is April 23rd.

If you have not done so already, make sure to check out the online Symposium Schedule and make your own customized schedule by creating an account that you can turn into a mobile app. There will be plenty of signage around the convention, but in an effort to be more environment we are attempting to have a paperless program schedule this year . . . but if you still prefer paper (as many neo-Victorains do) it is possible to print the schedule.

We are very excited to see familiar faces returning to the Symposium, and look forward to meeting a lot of new people as well.

“Steam Wars” Saturday

Today we are only TEN days away from the opening of the third annual Steampunk Empire Symposium! Which also means that you only have until midnight on April 20th to pre-reg for weekend badges and save $10.

The theme for weekend is “Steam Wars” which is open to many interpretations of Space Opera in a Victorian style, and while many will rejoice the opportunity to steampunk their favorite “Star Wars” characters, it is NOT mandatory to costume to the theme :)

Some will have “Steam Wars” outfits for all three days of the convention, but most will likely have just the one (myself included in the latter group), so Saturday, April 26th is going to be the main “Steam Wars” day with regards to costuming.

“May the Aether be with you.”

For its debut meeting at Molly Malone’s spacious location, the League of Cincinnati Steampunks saw a record turnout of 170 people. Welcoming many old companions as well as numerous first-time guests to this new location the League entertained its guests with not only the usual custom of fooddrink, and conversation, but also showed silent versions of movies The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, The Prestige, and QED, hosted a live performance from Cincinnati’s own Steampunk band AUTOMATION, and finished off the night with dancing dj-ed by DJ Eats Unicorns. However, the night was not just one of general merriment; in a show of support and acceptance, in many ways, of all things steampunk, the community rallied to help one of its members in need, Dr. Forge, who has been battling both multiple sclerosis and social security. Many desirable steampunk prizes were donated for a raffle held towards raising funds for Dr. Forge’s interim expenses while he waits upon the final authorization for his S.S. benefits. Several lucky individuals walked away with cherished prizes, such as a modded NERF gun from Aloysius himself, a steampunk belt, a custom bustled skirt worth $300, and even a Kindle Fire. The community as a whole celebrated raising over $800 with three heartfelt huzzahs. If you were unable to win any of this fabulous prizes, or are hungry for more opportunities to get your mitts on a wide variety of steampunk trinkets, accessories, and clothing then we invite you to join us at the Steampunk Yard Sale for “Save the Dave”.

We hope to see you soon at the Steampunk Empire Symposium. If you haven’t already ordered tickets, register today: weekend and one day passes are still available. Next month’s salon will be held again at Molly Malone’s for the Symposium’s  “May the 4th Be With You” after-party helping you fight those post-con blues with an electric violin performance by Emily King and dj-ing by DJ Nipples.
